2023 Kia Sportage: here's what's going to change

The Kia Sportage is getting a makeover for 2023. The model, which is a true star within the Kia family, is going to look better, but more importantly, more complete than ever. In light of what's expected, we're going to get a much improved version of the outgoing model.

This is very exciting, because this famous outgoing model was and still is very interesting and relevant.

Here is what will change with the 2023 model. You'll quickly understand why the excitement surrounding its arrival is so strong.

A unique style

The competition is strong in the compact SUV segment and one of the best ways to stand out is to show up with a distinct style. Kia is doing just that with its 2023 Sportage, which not only looks different, but also has bold and dramatic styling.

We're going to see a lot of it on the road!

Three mechanical options

You'll have even more choices under the hood with different mechanical approaches. The base version is still expected, but this time with a 2.5-liter (rather than 2.4-liter) 4-cylinder engine that will offer 187 horsepower. A new eight-speed automatic transmission will equip this model, while the other versions will still benefit from a six-speed transmission.

Next, we'll move on to the hybrid model, which will benefit from the work of a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This time, the power is announced at 226 horsepower. A 1.49 kWh battery will be at the heart of this variant.

Then, the icing on the cake is the PHEV version that will benefit from a 13.8 kWh battery, as well as a 66.9 kW electric motor. The official power output is still pending, but Hyundai has 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque with the cousin Tucson.

As for the electric range, it will be 52 km, which is more than respectable.

And of course, we're talking about one of the most fuel-efficient models in the category.

On board

Inside, in the more luxurious versions, you'll feel like you're in the driver's seat of a luxury vehicle. In fact, it's because of the dashboard's presentation, which combines two 12.3-inch screens for a very rich and visually successful presentation. Everything is oriented towards the driver for a better user-friendliness. The unique design of the air vents, inspired by the Kia Sorento, also adds a unique touch to the whole. The quality of the advertised materials also makes us salivate.

X-Line

The other big news is that there will be more rugged variants, similar to the Sorento.

The X-Line models will have separate bumpers and glossy black side mirrors, roof rails, a window surround and 19-inch wheels that also come in black. The X-Pro variant will add to the capabilities with BF Goodrich off-road tires mounted on 17-inch black wheels, LED fog lights, and a two-tone roof.

As for the rest, the new Sportage will be 7.1 inches longer as a result of a longer wheelbase. This will of course benefit the interior, which will be more spacious for occupants and equipment, but Kia also promises a smoother ride, as well as better soundproofing due to reduced vibrations.

In short, it sounds great!
