Kia registered 79,198 units last year, and in the process had its best year ever in terms of sales. Kia increased its sales by 9.3% year-over-year and registered 7 months of record sales from February to September. Kia also registered its best month of all time in June with 8,850 units sold.
“Our success in 2021 can be attributed to our industry leading design, safety and technology, as well as our dedicated dealer network, who remained agile in servicing our customers throughout another pandemic year,” says Elias El-Achhab, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Canada. “As we look forward to 2022, consumer demand remains exceptionally high, leaving us optimistic for the year ahead with new and exciting models like the highly anticipated Kia EV6, set to arrive in dealerships early next year.”
These results are even more impressive given the challenges faced by the automotive industry last year. Supply issues and production challenges limited inventory for all automakers including Kia, but the manufacturer relied on the value of its models and the quality of its service throughout its dealership network to reach record-breaking sales numbers.
The Kia Seltos with 14,436 units sold was the sales leader for Kia, closely followed by the Kia Forte compact sedan which incidentally is being fully redesigned in 2022. The Kia Sportage had 11,837 units sold last year and is also expected to be redesigned in 2022. Kia had great results when it's electrified vehicles as well, registering 4,720 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The Kia Soul EV did exceptionally well with an increase of 24% in sales, but the Kia Niro EV was the most impressive model with sales increases of 152%. The Kia Niro EV also did exceptionally well with 21% sales increases.
Lastly, Kia took home multiple awards including being named the number one mass-market brand by J.D. Power in its 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study. Kia took home three AutoTrader.ca awards, and the Kia K5 and Kia Telluride for the second year in a row won best large car and best large utility vehicle by AJAC respectively.
